Introduction

 Though I have taken several programming courses, I am not a programmer. Since all of the jobs I seek will involve computer use, this page is intended to supplement my other resume pages. It details some of my computer related skills as they pertain to data management, text composition, graphics and web work.

  • MS-DOS: Wrote batch files, created and navigated heirarchical files for business.
  • GW BASIC: Wrote an animated graphical game and ordering and billing programs for business.
  • Mac-OS: Installed, configured, calibrated, upgraded, and solved problems on machines used for publishing
  • Text: Used various text editors, word processors, email clients for business and publishing
  • Data Processing: spreadsheets, databases (Filemaker, Quicken, etc.)
  • Intranet: intranet client and server
  • Internet: Web browsers (Netscape, Explorer), FTP clients (Anarchie, Fetch, etc.), email clients (Eudora, Communicator), HTML editor (Composer), search engines, website traffic monitors
  • Graphics: graphic editor (Photoshop), pasteboard (Quark X-Press), scanner drivers, etc.
  • Utilities: maintenance, disk repair, optimization, and antivirus, compression and archive

  • IBM 386: repaired and modified PC's used for school and business.
  • Macintosh: Setup, cleaned and upgraded machines for business and graphics use.
  • Peripherals: Set up and used printers, scanners, writable CD, HD's, Zip drives, Floppy Drives.

  • Planned, designed and created website.
  • Produced all backgrounds and image files from scratch.
  • Produced portfolios of my articles and photographs (examples: 1, 2, 3)
  • Produced catalog style shots of various internet auction items.
  • Created promotional business website for "Sundae Times".
  • 1999-97 West Virginia Family magazine

    I was deeply involved in the startup and development of this successful magazine. My roles included Editor's Assistant, Technical Assistant, Photographer, Photojournalist, and Graphic Artist.
     
  • Graphics: Scanned and edited prints and negatives with Photoshop. Submitted calibrated JPEGs ready for four color press.

  • Set up machines for sending and receiving image files for publication.
  • Advised Editor on technical issues.
  • Solved problems and answered questions for professional novice users.
